Is old Spithead likely to be the last of our armchair Admirals?

Ol' Spithead sadly lost his ship. That is tragic but reflects not favourably or unfavourably on Ol' Spithead. If you are referring to Lord West, today is the fortieth anniversary of the sinking of HMS Ardent with significant loss of life and injuries to her ship's company. Your post is therefore pretty unpleasant, even by your standards.
That you do not like to be reminded is a problem for you. There was and never has been much glory in a Captain losing his ship to enemy action. It's not what they are expected to do.For most, politics is not that important to a sailor. Most sailors can recognise a wind-up merchant.
You are so recognised. Bore off.
You really are an attention seeker aren't you? That you do not like to be reminded is a problem for you. There was and never has been much glory in a Captain losing his ship to enemy action. It's not what they are expected to do.
If that is the best you can come up with then my point has been well made. Captains are not expected to lose their ships to enemy action. That is not the idea. You really are an attention seeker aren't you?
Well done you![]()
I have read. It still doesn't alter the fact that whatever the reason there is little honour in losing ones ship. Make of it what you will. Given they were poor warships then Captains should have made that clear to the armchair Admirals when they took command of them. If the warships were that poor they should never have been sent. If they were the best we had Well!Politics aside, he's hardly an armchair Admiral, having commanded a warship and fought in a war, none of which you achieved @lanky .
Read up on what happened to Ardent before you gob off. In another thread you say you don't pass comments on subjects you know nothing about.
This is one of those subjects.
@WreckerL has already responded to your posts. However, I must query your snide comment about "never been much glory in a Captain losing his ship to enemy action."That you do not like to be reminded is a problem for you. Then pray quote them for me. Nothing despicable as you suggest, If that should happen to any captain then that is a matter of regret notwithstanding the situation unless of course it is a direct dereliction of duty but then they are nevertheless shipped off with a handsome pension. It has been ever thus@WreckerL has already responded to your posts. However, I must query your snide comment about "never been much glory in a Captain losing his ship to enemy action."
That is despicable.
There are numerous examples to prove you wrong, and to show just what a sour, twisted person you actually are.
