Cars Converted Into Bonfires By Enthusiastic Youths.

Rotherham Was Just As Bad Forty Years Ago.
Detectives investigating South Yorkshire's oldest murder case are hoping developments in the world of science will lead them to the killer.

Schoolgirl Anne Dunwell was just 13 when she was sexually assaulted and murdered and her naked body left at the foot of a manure heap near Maltby, Rotherham, in May 1964.

Now officers working on the case are hoping the latest advances in DNA techniques will help identify the offender.

Police, who recovered DNA from the original exhibits, have discovered that it contains some unusual features. And it is now possible to identify families on the national DNA database who have this uncommon aspect to their make-up.

The technique is similar to familial DNA, which was successfully used by South Yorkshire Police earlier this year to trace the Dearne Valley shoe rapist.

You're Not Even Safe In The Middle Of The Town Centre

Foreign Johnny Given Traditional Yorkshire Welcome

Witold Pawlowski, 29, was attacked as he stood with two friends eating a pizza from the 'Best Kebab' takeaway in the bus shelter on Bank Street, opposite the Montagu Arms pub.
A man approached Mr Pawlowski and started talking to him, but Mr Pawlowski could not fully understand him as English is not his first language.
The suspect then walked off but returned about ten minutes later and knocked the pizza box out of his hand and punched him in the face before fleeing the scene.
The single blow left Mr Pawlowski, of Wath Road, with two black eyes and a broken jaw.
Police describe the alleged offender as white, aged 17–18, about 5ft 4ins tall with a slim build and short dark hair. He was wearing a grey jumper.
