Officer selection for ratings after initial training

Hi All, I'm currently undergoing the recruitment process for Warfare Specialist and I have just done my NSRT at my local AFCO.

I was watching a YouTube programme about initial training for ratings, as you do as part of research. I saw it mentioned a few times that 'it is known' that ratings can be selected for Officer Training straight after Initial training at HMS Raleigh. If they display the qualities etc of an officer.

Is there anyone who can explain this a little bit more, beyond the YouTube programme.
I have tried to Google it and found not much. As a note I do know all about UY and SUY courses for ratings.

Thanks in anticipation guys.

I should imagine the video you watched implies that if you have the academic qualifications, professionalism and potential officer like qualities, whilst excelling in the Warfare Spec job at sea, you have every chances of attending/passing AIB to be potential officer.

I'm sure that is the case, in the video which follows an intake from start to finish, the Petty Officer states to 2 recruits that recruits have been known to be selected for Officer Training immediately after passing out.

I was just wondering if others had encountered this?

It's simple and not prescriptive. The DS review all recruits and if they see someone with potential that is clear above their peers its recorded and monitored. if it continues in their assessments and discussions it may become an option that is considered for the individual(s).

I've not worked at Raleigh but I've been on the Dartmouth DS and I think in around 60months, I can think of 4 example. Like Wrecker says, don't pin your hopes on it.

It is something you can't plan, you either shine in all the right places or you don't, you probably wouldn't even know until offered, all you can do is your best. Good luck with your new life.
