Officer jobs in the Royal Navy

Hello to all I have been reading these forms for the past few months and they have been very helpful in regards to information on interviews and training etc

But what i would like is a full list of officer jobs. I am considering going into the communication technician branch. Do the majority of branches have the option of joining as an officer?

I have looked at the official Royal Navy careers site but can't seem to find a specific page listing what i'm looking for.

Captain of the heads comes to mind, however competition for this position is intense. It may be easier if you lower your ambitions and apply for a first lieutenants job

 

I was under the impression that all new officer were ranked as first lieutenants after completing all training.

Maybe i should re-define my question- What i would like is information on what branches I can go into as an officer.

 

The RN doesn't have first Lieutenants. Unless Ninja can correct me rank depends on age and quals on joining the mob. The Navy website has a full list of all jobs open to Officers on joining. You ust have to know which specialisation to look under first.

 

What! No first lieutenants, best you double away and report to Jimmy the One, well what are you waiting for! :thumright:

For Warfare Officer

Either join up as Pilot/Observer/ATC or transfer once in (but difficult these days). Spend your life flying or later on go for a PWO job and either return to flying or go down the mainstream warfare route. Yes WAFUS are Warfare Officers.

Or become a Submarine or Surface Warfare Officer

Surface
Start off as Officer of the Watch.
Continue as OOW progressing to Navigator

Or stream after more training as
HM - Hydro and Met officer
MCDO - Mine Clearance and Diving Officer
MWO - Mine Warfare Officer
FC - Fighter Controller

You could stay and become a deep specialist in those jobs or go for PWO course

Do one or two jobs as a Defence Watch Principal Warfare Officer and Operations Officer

Then sub specialise as either:
FASW - Force Anti Submarine Warfare Officer
CEW - Communication and Electronic Warfare Officer
AAWO - Advanced Air Warfare Officer
or do more PWO jobs, choice is yours (honest).

Submarines - no idea. Someone will tell you.

 

Anything involving flying i won't be able to do, due to wearing glasses and my eyesight not being good enough to fly. Also i'm not to keen on the whole submarine thing lol But that may change once i speak to a recruitment officer.

The FASW course consists of........... bugger all as far as I can tell. I was told by unreliable sources that the aim is to have the three advanced courses for battlestaff personnel. This is due to the new PWO course covering all the old streams.

Of course as ever with the Warfare World this will all change next week.

Agree with the third PWO on a T23 being ASW trained and Ops etc. My understanding is they lack people to do that and fill all the second and third job PWOs needed.

New amend to QRRNs is due out with the Ops Officer as HOD. CINC just sent a letter out about it.

 

Potential Officers are now required to post at least 3 bone questions on RR before attempting to pull the push door at the AFCO.
