Have a look at; Nuclear Veterans Worldwide.
Could this be one of the reasons for MOD's abrupt closure of the relevant Archive?

Did you find the TOP SECRET Chiefs of Staff Committee document Atomic Weapon Trials dated 20 May 1953 for Special Circulation that stated inter alia...

"The Army must discover the detailed effects of various types of explosion on equipment, stores and men with or without various types of protection"

Could the discovery of this and similar documents by researching PhD students have resulted in MOD removing its Nuclear Test Archive?

Have a look at KFvSSD [2019] UKUT 154 (AAC)
Case No: CSAF/135/2018

The MOD's chicanery catching up with it?

You can find the decision on www.bailii.org.

I don't think, having read it, that the decision suggests any chicanery on the part of the MoD. The First Tier Tribunal made a mistake in deciding how to deal with the evidence of Dr Busby (largely because of comments made by Mr Justice Charles in another case) and the Upper Tribunal corrected that mistake and sent the case back for a re-hearing where everything is still up for grabs. It appears that Dr Busby is at risk of repeatedly being found to be unreliable as an expert witness, but that determination has to be made on a case by case basis - he might, one day, be found reliable.

The wikipedia article on Christopher Busby https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Busby is also worth a read.

The "chicanery" perhaps refers to the "her" mentioned in the narrative?
No, the "her" and "she" references in the judgment are to the (lady) president of the Pensions Appeal Tribunal. The judgment was delivered on 11 April, and the current Secretary of State was not appointed until 1 May.

Thank you foir pointing out the "she" is not our newly appointed RNR Mammosus Natata SOSD ,but the Scots lady Judge Marion Caldwell QC. Perhaps it has taken a female Scots Judge to rock the MOD boat. FTT WPAFCC has been blessed with short-lived Acting female judges who have failed to deal with this contentious matter. Fiona Monk ,Alison Mc Kenna, Clare Horrocks and Elizabeth May have come and gone. The current female Judges Surinder Capper and Sehba Storey are presumably still about somewhere. FTT WPAFCS has great difficuly even recruiting Service Members with 7 years service to attend WP Tribunals at £226.84 a day plus expenses. Judge Marion Caldwell QC has hopefully got things moving--We will see.
