Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Oscar oscar whisky..............
Stand by mark range quebec over....................................................

Or should it be Snipe Charlie Nine..............?
One of the RO's will tell us!
  2. How did you get 6 greenies to agree to be fired through the SSE?
  3. On the blog in question a comment from an ex crew member of Illustrious says "had we been conducting ASW ops the submarine would not have got anywhere near us.
WE know differently don't we guys.
Saying ASW on the tin means fcuk all if you are crap at it!

Anybody can reduce a boat to attack criteria if said boat is enhanced and playing by the ROE exercise plan. During free play though........different ball game entirely
  4. lol..ASW....we had to call in our coordinates once on a sub miss exercise, the stupid a-holes couldn't even find our buoy, that was after 48hrs of playing around up top...had a good snooze during the whole thing though... :hockey:
  5. We did an excercise during Thursday war, Skimmers swore we wernt in the excercise area at the debrief.
Skipper puts lots of nice photos of said skimmer ships taken from our periscope.
    Silent faces all round.

I'm sure I saw a first class periscope shot of HMS Daring (T45).

Was it a genuine one, or a "photoshop" jobbie?
  7. Here is one from HMAS Onslow

[IMG] It's an older image 1998, but the shots are getting better.

    The "Dream Shot".....

    [IMG] :thumright:

How would you like to be closed up for this shot...

The HMS Daring one does look like the scope is very much out of the water...but the seas are light, and it's probably a photo shoot ex.

:Looks blurry, but they probably ran out of glass cleaner...Lol

Actually the BBC picture is better, and now that I think about it, the Submarine was probably on the surface transiting, which would account for the height of the scope, looks legit picture wise... :hockey:
