Spoke to my recuiter about my application just before new year and she said i should be in during 2011 ANd that some of my fourms have ran out. She posted all the fourms to me what i had to fill back in took my PJFT on january 14th got 11.14 seconds. Got a phone call from my Afco on monday saying that they had a date for me was over the moon. And then got told id have to retake my PJFT because it was 1 second out :( So its back to the Gym next week to resit my PJFT set myself a target of below 11 minutes Wish me luck :)

It must be because its late or its been one of those days but when you took your PJFT (I presume for the 2nd time) on 14/01/11 didn't it state what time you had to achieve? If that's the case how the dickens was it recorded as a pass if you didn't hit the time - and yes I know it was a second out but all that means is that you failed it by a second. Also I thought you had 3 attempts at achieving the time - so did you fail at all three attempts?

1 and a half miles in 11 minutes.
If I take the back seat out and the hatch, I should be able to crack that. Does it matter if the MOT has expired?

You'll be fine if you only have to take a single second off it...!

When I got my start date I was also told I'd have to redo my run (as i think everyone does) but in the Raleigh time. Initially for the PJFT I got 15:13 to do it in, being a 26 yr old woman, & i did it in 14:17... So now I have to do it in 13:50, so also not much to take off. Still nerve wracking though! :)

Good luck!

Read what he has put,
He didnt reach the time,
And has too take it again,
Why do you think has had these 3 attempts?

Also Zac1990, if you read this, sort your gash typing out.

Best of luck Zac. Just run hard and keep going. When you feel like slowing down just grit your teeth and tell yourself its not much further and remember its worth it in the end. Even a slightly overweight sod like me can get 10.42 so give it a good shot

If this was a Fbook status i'd "like" it!

I'm also a little overweight & it can be done. Before I applied for the RN i couldn't run to the top of my street, but the incentive keeps you going! RAAA!! :)

I find positive motivation is the key. I've ehad a long time of no motivation as my application has been bogged down in paperwork but I've recently had a slight bit of hope given so im much more active and motivated. Just keep at it and it comes fine :batman:

I think there is a big mental aspect involved in run times.
My 1st run time passed me at the time, at 11mins 16 seconds or something, but thats now a fail by a few seconds, so i got a letter to re-do it this month.
Timed myself on the 1.5 miler today(for the first time in about 6 months), and got 10:30, and had plenty in the tank, so within 3 weeks i aim to get under 10 mins. I only run once a week, if that sometimes, as i do a lot of weight training.

not everyone has to do it again, your pjft espires after 12 months so thats why you must redo it, and because people were just passing the PJFT and then failing come raleigh is the reason for the changed times. I did mine at RNAC in october 9mins 12secs and i was told this would count as a retake of a PJFT but to be honest alot of info i was told at rnac seems conflicting to what my AFCO says so im not sure

Everyone does have to do it again i'm afraid- I did mine with plenty of time to spare, i didn't just scrape it. It's just a new policy according to my CA because so many were failing it at Raleigh. & I only did it in October, so even if it does expire after a year it won't affect me.

If you run it on a treadmill put it on a 2 degree incline to make it harder and more realistic. Then post your REAL time. :)

The lazygit gyms who run PJFTs forget this.

Re-took my Pjft this morning got 10.40, Time to start running on the streets now instead of treadmills. 3 Months till Raleigh :)

Aint used a treadmill more than once or twice in my life. Any major things different than road/track running? Any tips?

Currently running 10.42 out and about on my 1.5mile so room for improvement but I have a while til they send me for a PJFT

I don't bother timing my self any more. I tend to do a few short hill sprints and a few 10 milers. On my PEDA I got 8.39. Just get out there and run.

my quickest time on treadmill was 8.49 then round a track at rnac 9.12, now i know i have to redo it i think ill have a word with my CA get it rebooked, my CA said to me i have completed everything just waiting for a date even the security clearance is through. I guess ill just have to wait and see and ask when they call me on friday

Hi Think if your struggling with your fitness and times pick up the pre joining fitness booklet at the Afco. I followed this exactly Before I went to Raleigh and I was very fit by then. Great programme to follow gives you an idea what is expected of you. Any of you going to Raleigh last thing you want is to be struggling with Physical exercise on top of everything else you have to do. And having to do remedial training because of failing the Pjft or swim test. Had one guy in our mess failed Pjft and swim test so after the day had ended he had to cleaning stations all his kit plus remedial training to pass those tests in the evening. What a nightmare. Pick up that programme from Afco it great and worth it before going to Raleigh.

I have my date for Raleigh, I was on the same RNAC as Raffer and I haven't been told i've got to do my fitness test again. Did it on the RNAC in 10 mins dead and was told by both staff at the RNAC and my CA that the time on the RNAC counts as my re-take and that the pass counts (as my previous fitness test had expired 4 months prior to going on the RNAC.
