It made me laugh when David Milliband was questioned about it on TV yesterday.
He was asked if he was appalled by it.
He replied that yes he was appalled by it and Stephen Byers was also appalled by it.
I was listening to the radio yesterday and the comment was that everyone was shocked by the MPs expenses row, however this was far more serious and should be treated as such.
Shows that we have the best politicians money can buy
Received the following from a rellie.... probably should have put in in Lil's really ?
'Can you imagine a company with 600 plus employees, and which has the following employee statistics:
29 accused of spousal abuse
7 arrested for fraud
9 accused of writing bad cheques
17 directly or indirectly have bankrupted at least two businesses
3 jailed for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit rating
14 arrested on drug-related charges
8 arrested for shoplifting
21 currently defending lawsuits
84 arrested for drink driving
Collectively costed the British taxpayer £92,993,748 in expenses
The organisation ?
The 635 members of the House of Commons. The same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line (the Stasi would have been proud of this !!)
Who also have probably the best corporate pension scheme in the UK
And this does not even include what is wasted by local government, advisors, quangos and fringe groups employed by said organisations.
And these are the 'persons of dubious parentage' who will be dropping around asking for votes at any time now !! 8O
Now Brown is saying he has checked and no one has done anything wrong, so we do not need an enquiry. Well of course what serpent or minister is going to admit that Byers influenced him, that is just why an enquiry is needed.
Byers is either lying about the influence he has, or is lying about his lack of influence, he has told two stories we do need to know which one is true.
The one saving grace out of this is that no one is going to em-loy Byers to lobby or otherwise after this.
Conversation overheard between a fictitous PM (whom we shall call Gonad Burn) and an assembly of Ministers and Senior Civil Serpents probably went along the lines of ...
GONAD BURN "None of you promised to help "Taxi for Hire" (name changed to protect anonymity) or any other of your former colleagues by giving them confidential information did you?"
ASSEMBLED MASS "No, we wouldn't dream of doing such a thing and you know you can trust us"
GONAD BURN "Well that's all right then. Investigation complete - let's move on"
A good read, well, very sad read, is the book that the guys at the Telegraph put together on how they exposed the whole sorry lot but some and some of the stories are mind boggling, its a fascinating insite into journalism and how they caught the thieving barstweards out
It's Patricia Hewitt who really boils my piss. She made a mess of MG Rover, then completely fucked up the junior doctor recruitment system (which is still in a shambles and has ruined medical careers for a cohort of doctors, many of whom ended up emigrating to Australia), and now her smugness extends to this! Oh, and she also made a hash out of a coup against arguably one of the most unpopular PMs in recent history.
If only the MoD knew you could buy a Cabinet Minister for £3K!
