New here! Help with Navy application?

Hi all, i'm new here and not in the Navy, though i'm working towards it.
For a while now i've been preoccupied with thoughts of joining the Navy, but only now am i doing something about it. I went to my local AFCO and have got all the application forms and fitness test information and suchlike. My only problem is that i'm on the waiting list for an operation, and i know that this is a temporary hold on the application process. But my question is this: Can i apply anyway and have my application deferred, or do i have to wait until my operation's finished before i apply? It's only a minor laparoscopy, and i desperatly want to be able to apply (especially as i could be made redundant very soon, and want to be moving towards a career, at least). I'm probably going to fill out the forms anyway and ask the guys at the AFCO, but if any of you people could give me an answer, that'd be great!

Thanks!

Brilliant, thanks! I'm assured i'll have this operation in the summer, but we know how the NHS is for waiting lists! I'll definitely set to filling the application, and will concentrate on getting fitter, maybe it'll help my recovery too.

Welcome onboard snap.

I don't see the problem, aslong as it is not going to effect your health in the long run. A friend of mine had an op before joining, she went through the process and the medical etc, they held her application until she returned a few months later, all she had to do was the medical again.

Good luck and keep us posted.

It won't affect my health, it'll be much better and my body should still be just as strong and healthy as it is now- it's just a minor gynae operation, it'll stop me having to take stupid tablets anyway. Thanks for all your help, i'm all fired up to join now! I'll probably post again in another forum for more joining help.
