And I thought this was about a real one ..
'And on her other thigh
Was a Fairey Firefly..'
THat was what passed through my mind rather than a replacement for the Tiger Moths I flew.
Talking about the original Firefly. We bought one back from Australia in 66 onboard Hms Victorious. The C/O and officers of 814 sqdn, LT/CDR Michael Apps purchased a Korean war Firefly from RANAS Nowra. Which he presented to the FAA museum in Yeovilton.
just as an add on to the purchase of the Firefly in 66.
I was duty rover that day and took Apps and a bunch of Tiifs out too buy and collect the A/C. When we got there they went on a little tour, Apps told me to tag along. I followed them pretending to look knowledgable. Then we went to the mess where a bit of a buffet was laid on and loads of hootch. The A/C was latched on to the back of my rover and we towed it back. Got some funny looks off the locals, And overloaded rover, us all singing and an aeroplane hanging off the back.
A bloody good duty that day.
