Naval Injuries

This thread seems to have moved to the right!

UK plc needs a properly functioning, properly funded Veterans Agency, which exists to support those who have been injured or damaged by Service life, not including nonsense like the case that started the thread. Whilst there is a government department with responsibility for Service veterans it is neither of the above.

If the Septics and the Aussies can have it, why can't the mother of their civilisations at least equal their efforts? Oh yes, it's too costly says the socialist government that has spent over £300,000,000 on "consultants" since it came to power.

Because to do it they would have to admit there are a significant amount of casualties (non deaths) which they manage to avoid quite well at present. We're great when we're doing our jobs, but an embarrassment if we have the nerve to get seriously wounded.

AAC,

You got it.. - but it also included Chefs and Scribes. We also manned the Shell and Cartridge rooms on the CherryB - they had to trust someone to do it

Backpacker - have you posted your comments about the SAS on AARse ?

......all they gave me was a Hurt Certificate. I wonder what I'd have received in compo these days ??

The Hurt Cert is your proof of Service attributability, so if you didn't get compensation or an enhancement to your pension, try it now.

I'm due to claim the pensh next year, I may just contact them beforehand, thanks.

I seem to recall my Dad was in a similar situation - he lost the whole of his left hand middle finger in 1965 (4.5 gun breech / finger interface caused by over-eager oppo) and received a Hurt Cert. When he left the mob in 1976 he approached the pensions people about his injury and was informed that the system had changed and that compensation should be paid at the time of the injury. I think it took a cetain amount of bureacratic paper shuffling to get something out of the system.

Always Wrote: I often wish the public got to see more of the disabilities of service life during the otherwise sanitised Rembrance Day parades. It would be more productive to get school children involved with working helping injured ex-servicemen than some of the more cushy community work they do - and provide a future generation who will take the issue to heart.

I hear you and echo the sentiment. It would be great, but it's never going to happen. :(

It does make me angry! :x

It's a pity one of the Veterans orgs cannot campaign/lobby for it to start happening - perhaps some pilot projects in places like Pompey and Rosyth? After all fellow Rum Rationers: why not? Perhaps what we need is more disabled servicemen working in offices and where I work - that way they would get seen by a wider public! Interesting thought!

You'll need to move up the road Whitemouse and work where I work - that could be interesting!
