most difficult roles

#1
Hi guys,
was just thinking about all of the different roles that the Navy offers to a rating and would love to know which roles are considered the most difficult to pass for, for example i know that AETs must get one of the highest marks on the recruitment test but i would love to know what other roles are deemed one of the hardest to get. Is aircrewman another of the harder roles to get into? considering that they must do a flight aptitude test aswell does this mean that they must pass quite highly on the recruitment test?

cheers

It depends on which criteria you are taking into account, Joey. In terms of required RT scores, the very high total score ones are for Communications Technicians and Naval Nurses. Just below them is a block of scores covering Engineering and Medical. Bear in mind as well that it's not only total scores which are taken into account. Part scores matter too e.g. Engineering Technicians need to reach a higher score in Mechanical Comprehension, which makes sense when you consider what they will be asked to do as part of their job.

There are two jobs which have a high physical requirement, Royal Marine and Diver. Those can be difficult to get in to for people who have overestimated their own physical abilities as the PRMC and PDA, the residential testing processes for those two jobs, are tough.

ok great thanks soleil. Im looking to joining potentially as an aircrewman and i am aware that they must do the RT and the FATS, is this role considered difficult to get in to? i mean has the Navy set particularly high pass marks for this becuase they are aircrew? i havent really been given much information on direct entry aircrewman so if anyone knows about the recruitment process then that would be great!

AC used to be difficult, however judging by the current crop the standards have been lowered to around that of Burger King.

I removed pilot as it isn't a rating branch, but it's by far the most popular career aspiration & least achieved.

AC is not that sought after in relation to those listed, but it's still not that easy to join.

At present it seems every other person walking into an AFCO wants to be ACMN, but I suspect there will be a lot of disappointed applicants at the recruiting test, aviation medical & FATs stages of selection. It's heavily over-subscribed, but the fact there are far more applicants than jobs available doesn't necessarily mean it's difficult, it'll just mean stupidly long waiting lists over the coming years.
