Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Monsanto Agro-Chemicals have done a lot for the environment GR. They conspired to spray 19,000,000 gallons of dioxin loaded herbicides onto Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Most people have heard of Agent Orange; not many heard of Agents Purple, Pink, Green and White. All part of the same programme to defoliate the jungles, which was pretty well known; but also to stop food crops growing anywhere in the area.

No-one gave a rats-ass until a lot of the US servicemen involved started to father 2-headed babies and it transpired that Monsanto had been lying to the US military and to Congress about the contents of their devil's brew.

And now they have big money in Genetically Modified Crops.

  2. With apologies for the blatant Thread drift; did the Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian forests ever recover from the defoliation? That must have made a significant difference to the local meteorology, if not globally.

As far as Monsanto is concerned, I'm with G R, on this occasion.

Hmm, f*ck the humans - what about the trees?!

I take your point; but if the f**ked up trees (entire tracts of forest in this case) change the local climate, the resultant WX can go a long way towards f**king up people.
  5. In Vietnam over 14% of forests were destroyed. The loss of tree cover has contributed to soil erosion, catastrophic flooding and loss of agricultural land. Dioxin which is heavily carcinogenic has caused half a million birth defects since it was introduced into the environment. Spina Bifida is one of the more common defects.

A little known and heavily hidden fact is that the Brits used a similar herbicide in Malaya.
