Gay bar wins right to ban heterosexuals
    Monday May 28 05:00 AEST

A Melbourne gay bar has been granted an exemption from the Equal Opportunity Act in a landmark ruling which will allow security to refuse entry to heterosexuals.
The owners of Collingwood's Peel Hotel, which came under fire in April for promoting a gay Anzac Day party, successfully argued to the state planning tribunal that banning heterosexuals from the club would prevent "sexually based insults and violence".
The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal granted the controversial powers to the club last week, the Herald Sun reports.

VCAT deputy president Cate McKenzie claimed that allowing straight men and women into the club would defeat the purpose of the venue.
"This would undermine or destroy the atmosphere which the company wishes to create," McKenzie said.
"Sometimes heterosexual groups and lesbian groups insult and deride and are even physically violent towards the gay male patrons."
McKenzie said some straight women came to the club because they found the gay patrons entertaining.
"To regard the gay male patrons of the venue as providing an entertainment or spectacle to be stared at, as one would at an animal at a zoo, devalues and dehumanises them," she said.
"(This exemption) seeks to give gay men a space in which they may, without inhibition, meet, socialise and express physical attraction to each other in a non-threatening atmosphere."
A spokeswoman for the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Lobby Group told the Herald Sun that gay men at the Peel had been made to feel like "zoo animals".
"This exemption was not sought to exclude members of the community but to try to maintain a safe space for men to meet," the spokeswoman said.
"It's sad that members of our community would have to go to the VCAT to preserve their rights.
"This is one of the only free venues with live music in the area, so certainly some people may feel a bit unhappy about the decision."
  2. TBH

If queers/hat racks/marmite miners/uphill gardeners/rug munchers/turd burglars/ass bandits/labia lickers wanna ban normal folk from their dens of gay iniquity, who really gives a fuck. Only in Oz could they care, a nation of queens and closet queens would publish this non story.
  3. Having just come back from Gay Pride in Brum today I can offer an opposing view to this. Birmingham Pride if open to all, gay, straight, black, white, whatever. We do get a lot of straight people visiting the venues, and tonight as my husband and I left we were followed along the street by two young straight girls (both pished). They started by giving us lip, which we ignored, this then turned to abuse (i.e Faggot, queer, etc). All this after enjoying the hospitality that Pride had offered. We both ignored these comments, but I don't see why, at such a high profile gay event, I should endure abuse from straight people?
If they didn't like it, then leave quietly. There is no need to abuse your hosts! I don't condone what Melbourne have done, but I can understand it. In an ideal world there would be no gay or straight bars, just bars where we all drink. But we don't live in that world, and until we do, there will always be these problems.
  4. And you kiss your mother/wife with that mouth??????
  5. Do I understand from this that they are being beaten up by girls? How gay is that?? :p

I would be intested to see how the hell they plan to enforce this one. Obviously the biggest danger is dealt with ... no girls! But how do they police the blokes .. "You can only come in if you are dressed like Daffyd out of Little Britain"??
  6. Hang on, what would happen if a pub/club wanted to ban females or gays would this be allowed, woud it feck.

the last place I expected for PC to run riot was OZ
  7. This is the point as a confusing array of laws are created to fit the various needs for the many ' tastes ' of todays multi-cultural world , confusion and conflict arise with a need for further laws to cope . Crazy.
  8. well lets have a pink /fluffy RR then the poofters can chat /post without fear of ridicule !
  9. Here in Bangkok there is a lesbo club which doesn't allow any men in at all.
Let them have their bum clubs, I mean, what straight people would want to go and see a load of pervs camping it up anyway? A little segregation can be a good thing, a queers club is a good idea, they can have their social fun in private and wouldn't have to suffer abuse as they do when prancing around in 'pride' parades.
BTW, Pride = A sense of one's own proper dignity or value; self-respect.
Never really saw why social outcasts who engage in un natural sexual practices with same sex partners decided to mince under that banner.

It's Oz so not really our problem, unexpected though!

If it were to happen in this country it would be a scandal, new legislation has only just been pushed through (primarily backed by the gay rights lobby) to ensure equality for all in matters such as this. The legislation was introduced to prevent "minority" groups from being indirectly discrimminated against, it works both ways though! I'm not opposed to that legislation, although I don't think it was necessary.
  12. Yes, to the point . Despite all the legislation created making any form of discrimination an offence this sets a precedent opening the door for similar legislation in areas where segregation had been removed by law . Another legal fest it seems for the already bloated legal practitioners. Should be a law against it .
  13. Perhaps two gay men kissing and groping each other turns heterosexual young women on in the same way that many heterosexual males are turned on by lesbian sex.
  14. I am just sick and tired of the gay community constantly throwing their sexuality at us like weapon. Alright you are gay, but to have it rammed down our fronts by these marches, which just seem to degenerate into a load of queens trying to out queen each other. Give it a rest ffs.
BTW nice to see that Tatchell get another kicking in Russia, yet again trying to foist gay liberation on ppl who dont want to be liberated.

Right do the majority of us organise massive celebrations/ marches to proclaim our heterosexuality, no we dont, thats because we are not attention seeking drama queens, and that unfortunately is what the gay community has evolved into.
  15. Look at it from a logical point of view.
How many posts on RR are of a blatant sexual nature from straight posters?
Far more than from the homosexual members.
You can always skip the post if it offends you.
However please don't try to curtail their freedom of speech
  16. Fair point slim, there is always the option of IGNORE. But maybe INDIFFERENCE would be a more suitable attitude to adopt.
  17. That's a bit liberal from you Slim, it's the sort of thing I might have said. o_O
  18. My view is; everyone can do what they want behind closed doors.

I'm old fashioned in the way that people shouldn't blab about their sex lives, shove it in your face and they should keep it private!.

It's disrespectful to other people. If people want an orgy, have one, and keep it between the participants and not brag about it to anyone else.

It's the same as doing it in the presence of others, or in the same house, but in the next room - not on!

I nearly fell out with my brother big time one day when he brought a girl home and slept with her and my mother was in the room next door. I nearly strangled the prick!

I'm totally against Gay pride parades because they're shoving their sexuality in people's faces when I couldn't care less what they do.

Same as I'd disagree with a Lesbian only or a Straight-pride parade.

Do your shit behind closed doors, enjoy it and shut your fucking mouth about it!
