MOD briefing on CORNWALL incident

Yes
Having said that, we are unaware of what duress she was put under to comply. None of us know how we would react in the same position.
If they are making her wear that chador, then they are probably keeping her separate from the men. (other than for TV propaganda purposes)

Didn't they home (in decent accommodation) the previous RN lot that were taken back in 2003 or was it 04?

No, not in the least.

If I were in her shoes, and they had told me that I had to do such and such, and that if I did that, then I'd be released and could go home to my wife and son, I'd have complied, in the full knowledge that anyone who knows me would know that what I was saying was bollox!
She looked under duress; the language used in her letter was stilted and evidently scripted, and as far as I'm concerned, the things she was forced to say and write don't mean a thing.

The whole situation in unacceptable. Our government should be doing more to secure the release or our personnel. I know we don't want to provoke hostilites with Iran, or make the diplomatic situation out there any worse, but at the moment we seem to be giving the impression that if another country captures our troops thats fine, all we seems to be doing is "writing a really angry letter" to their government. We should say right away this is not on, and tell them that if they continue in this course of action, and continue to come into Iraqi waters and detain our sailors and marines, then we will have to use force to protect ourselves.
The prospect of war with Iran is not a nice one, nor is it the favoued outcome, but at the moment we just seem to be getting walked all over, and Blair doesn't seem to be doing that much, althouhg I'm sure on the diplmatic scene they must be doing something.

Any way, rant over, sorry.

Agreed, everyone would, safe in the knowledge that those of us at home know it's bolox!

All well and good making threats while they have our personnel held somewhere in Iran but by making threats BEFORE we have got them back safe may make the situation worse.

Lets get them home safe before we say something that could be taken the wrong way.

I was scanning YouTube when I found the video of Faye giving her speech on how the RN personnel are being treated.

To me she looks very nervous, chin up lass, you'll all be home soon!

Fox news releases a phone interview with reporter and Gareth Smith here.

I don't think she admitted anything, all she has said is that 'apparently we strayed into Iranian waters', just what her captors have told her, clearly there is no intent to trespass from what she has said and despite that the Iranians are claiming t was deliberate.

The RN knows the score with Iran, so logically thinking, they could have been mistaken and accidentally strayed.

However, when you are in a situation like this one, you can be made to say anything. Once she is released, the truth will come out, until then we will just have to wait.

In my opinion they should all say that they were in the wrong if it will get them home, No-one will think less of them. What does it matter? only to our pathetic Government , Because of Bliar and his cronies the Royal Navy is becoming a laughing stock, Get these people home safe.

The morons on the BBC HYS website really are f$%^ing cnuts. Had to reply to one arrse hole's comments - along the lines of

'if your walking down the street on your own and meet a group of 10 fellas all bigger than you with baseball bats, do you fight or take the obvious route that leads to you not ending up in intesive care'

These people have no idea about the real world and yet they are allowed to pollute the gene pool by breeding.

Sounds as though Blair is doing the Lenin walk - one step forward, two steps back..........
according to the BBC today Tony Blair's official spokesman said "the UK was not seeking a confrontation." yet yesterday the PM said the Iranian action was, "completely unacceptable, wrong and illegal".

Westie says no…

What training would the personnel have been given to help them in the event of capture?

These particular people would not be trained in counter-interrogation techniques because they are not expected to be captured. But I think our guidance to anyone in that position would be to say what they want you to say, let's not be silly about it. Don't tell them secrets, clearly, but if they tell you: 'Say this', well if that's going to get you out, then do it. It means absolutely nothing, what they say, to be honest.

I might be a bit dim but why is it Blairs fault?

Finky

I think in general this subject has got all sorts of different emotions a trifle mixed up, and in this case higgies dislike of Bliar is clouding his view of the really important problem getting our own back. The recriminations can come later when that task is done but lets all keep focussed on the real problem of today.
