Mne 1st Class

#4
Everybody who holds the rank of Mne is a Marine 1st class, It just differentiates between someone who is a rct(Marine 2nd Class or Mne2) and someone who is fully trained.

At least thats what i thought.

For those wishing for an English translation on the above:

A Royal Marine (Mne) joins as a Recruit (Rct) and for the purpose of pay is classed as a Marine 2nd Class (Mne2).

Having successfully completed Recruit Training (RT) he becomes a trained Commando the Marine 2nd Class becomes Marine 1st Class (Mne1) & earns a pay rise.

To further specialise (spec) in any of 27 different trades he needs to have been a Mne 1, usually for around 2 years (but not always) and have an above average (Grade B - Grade C is average) Ratings & Other Ranks Reporting System (Rorrs) Report which recommends him to undergo a specific course.

But, Scottish Kiwi, put it a lot briefer than I!

Only SQs with a 'twos' entry level require a B grade. E.g. PTI, ML, DL etc. Reason being, ranks loaded to an entry level 'twos' course often queue jump their parent branch promotion loading, thus the B grade ensures that they are of the correct calibre for JCC. (Overall B grade being a strong recommendation for promotion this board, vice a C grade which is described as developing.) This queue jump still remains contentious in some circles.

SQs with 'threes' entry - HW, AE, S, D, C, VM etc do not require a specific RoRRs grade. Ranks may apply on completion of training, at the two year point (DSS), any career point beyond, or may be pinged.

Thanks to everyone who replied! Exactly what im looking for. The branch I'm trying to join is the RM Aircrew so you do need a B grade RORRS and yes I have been told I will Q jump promotion if successful.

Translation:

SQ- Specialist Qualification
PTI- Physical training Instructor
ML- Mountain Leader
DL-
JCC- Junior Command Course (Corporal)
HW- Heavy Weapons
AE- Assault Engineer
S- Swimmer Canoeist
D- Driver
C- Comms Tech or Clerk or Chef
VM- Vehicle Mechanic

OK, give in, what's DL? (Drill something?)

Can someone mark my answers please?

Am I alone in thinking that if 'dw02_hot' is really a Marine with 2 years service he would surely have known what a Marine 1st Class is? As 'stirling' pointed out even a cursory search of the RM site would have provided the answer, not to mention 'dw02_hot' being able to ask anyone he was working with or in his chain of command.

On the other hand the question did provide a very informative answer from those in the know.

Yeah sorry I'm on sick leave as I got injured In afghan so no one to ask and the clerk I rung up didnt have a clue. The reason I posted was because the branch I'm wanting to join is aircrew and you need a B grade RORRS. however it says you need to be a marine 1st class!!!!! Now you dont get a RORRS in training and your god if you get a B the first year after after pass out so why would the entry requirements state that. This is not a brance you can join in the first two years!!!
