Mine Warfare

Hi I'm at the end of my application process for Mine Warfare Specialist and I'm still not 100% sure on some details of the role such as duties, locations, time away etc.. My recruiter originally told me he would arrange for someone who has done the role to give me a call however this now can't happen (not sure why), I have looked on here and any response to the role doesn't seem positive and the posts all look quite old. I was hoping somebody could reply to this or message me with more information.
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
If you're having second thoughts then it's time to do some research. There is nothing wrong with changing your role before Raleigh, but once you're in you'll stay in the role. I know that the MW has been a high priority role since last year. You have to make a choice what you want to do and what suits you. You'll be working on small ships in the Gulf - Middle East alongside Mine Clearance Divers :)

I've highlighted key words :)

hi thanks for the reply, I'm not having second thoughts as such I'm just excited to get a start date and start my new career. Working on smaller ships doesn't bother me and what I can gather from the website the role seems interesting however there isn't much there. Do you have any idea why Mine Warfare Specialists are referred to as Muppets?

Every role has an interesting bit in it. It all depends on how you look at it :) These two lads ShazoozleBamboozle and Myss722 are joining as MW in July.

An explanation of a Muppet:

Just another quick one, maybe for them lads, how far in advance did you get your start dates? I know you get 28 days minimum notice but I've been waiting a while a just wondering how much longer it might take.

Only an AFCO can answer that. If it's a high priority role and you've already been cleared then it should theoretically be quicker than a non priority role. You get a date as soon as they open a course. It also depends on where you're in the queue. People change roles or drop out and you could get a call at short notice if you're available. One MW intake is taking place in July for sure.

It's Mine Hunting in the Middle East not Mine Finding--Now that would be interesting. Make that hot boring repetitive routine worthwhile.
