Medical Query

You're just over analysing it, stop worrying and just get on with it. It's hard but it's all you can do. Asking questions on an internet forum that the vast majority of members are completely unqualified to comment on won't help.

Brown nosing? Yeah that's exactly what I'm doing. Hail the almighty Ninja. I'll sleep better tonight now knowing I may have gone up in his estimations. Or not of course.

But seriously, good luck. I'm off for my aircrew medical and after the first one taking so long it isn't something I have been looking forward to aha.

So I got a temp fail today, hearing in my right ear and asthma dating back to when I was three, need to do a peak flow chart for four weeks and get my hearing test somewhere else, hopefully it will be soundproofed this time without distractions

If there's any history of asthma, there's always a requirement to undertake a 4 week peak flow diary unfortunately. There's no escaping that.

The hearing test is a bone of contention - if you get an independent test done (bearing in mind most standard civilian hearing tests don't cover the full frequency range required by the RN) and your hearing is then found to be up to scratch, then I'd be inclined to submit a formal written complaint. That said - no point in complaining if your hearing is subsequently verified unacceptable.

The reason for this is because the hearing test should be carried out in the correct sound-proof environment with a correctly calibrated audiometer & fully serviceable earphones. At the very least, if the hearing test costs you money but you meet the standard for entry - get a receipt and claim it back.

By the by - the opening sentence still works without the "so".

Same boat as you mate (no pun intended). I had my medical on the 10th of October, and I am still waiting to hear back for a re-medical. Just out of curiosity what are you hitting on your peak flow?

I had my medical down in Southsea last month and due to my asthma history was sent away with the peak flow diary. The only thing that bugged me about this was that I turned up for a 10 minute medical, told that they needed to request a GP report and so to come back when that was ready. Why was this not requested when I sent back my forms declaring an asthma history, and therefore saving the need to not only wait but have a 2nd medical?

In terms of peak flow, it seems averages depend on how tall and old you are (apparently!?) but the highest I've managed to hit is 660.
