Medical Appeals waiting time

Afternoon all,

Just a quick question to see how long medical appeals are currently taking? I understand that they are taking longer due to COVID-19 but I am conscious as my interview “runs out” in a couple of weeks time and I am unsure of the position that this would leave me in.
If I then pass my medical appeal do I have to re sit my interview? Or would my application just continue as normal?
I would ask the AFCO but I understand that they are very busy at the moment and I did not want to bother them with a question that might be answered on here.

Many thanks in anticipation!

Why not try this.

I think I'll ask the AFCO as they are in a better position to know as everyone on the internet are very busy and I don't want to bother them.

Thank you Drakey. Thankfully I did contact my AFCO this afternoon also, I was advised by them that they are not at liberty to discuss it and I would hear in due course. I assumed that people would only reply to the thread if they had the time to do so therefore, your reply was very unexpected, especially in the manner used by yourself. I believed that this platform was to communicate and help others! Thank you again for your response, I hope you have a lovely day.

Hi bud, my appeal took about 3 months to go through, however, my appeal went in at the start of March so pre-COVID mentalness. I would suggest maybe call the AFCO once a month and check in, they may get irritated and arsy, but my AFCO didn't realise my Appeal had come through until I asked for an update. I'd expect, in the current climate, between 4-5 months depending on the complexity of the case.

That's a very rough estimate based on my experience, I was told it would be around two months initially. Hope that's of some use.

Good Luck!

My understanding is that there was a break in the processing of medical appeals in the late spring/early summer and that the backlog is being tackled now.

What I think might happen for you is that your CA will ring you just before your 'expiry date' to do a top-up interview. It won't be a full interview, it will be selected elements. This is the most likely eventuality, I would have thought.

I’d ring your local AFCO. My medical isn’t an appeal but I’ve been waiting for over a month. Rang my AFCO and he said he hopes it’ll be this week or next but I’m expecting it to be a long wait because of Covid

See, that was easy.

I'll take your comments as a compliment.

Happy to help.
