With all due respect to former CPO Best and his Rate, this isn't a new event. Remember how many times in relation to Brown Jobs it's been reported that "officers" had been considered negligent; to find that the said "officer" was a Lance Jack. Very prevalent in Lancs. Whether the journos get confused with the Police Force where everyone is considered an "officer" (my friend at the West Midlands head fed shed tells me it's because they are "officers" of the Law), I don't know.
It's part of a general lack of understanding of all thing military these days. From the same Article;
