MDHU posting

MA or MO in the know,

I'm hoping someone with a bit of insight into the MDHUs can point me in the right direction. Getting gen from BRNC is like getting blood from a stone.

Long story short, I did 10 years as a rating in the RAF, got out to go to Medical School and join the RN,
am about to qualify as a Doctor and am on the Navy cadetship scheme so will run through to and MDHU for 2 years foundation training.

I'm living in Manchester, but the wife can't leave to join me in Portsmouth/Plymouth until she finishes her training in a year, so I'm trying to avoid the south coast until I go to Dartsmouth then for GDMO years although I could go in F2.

I hear staying to do Foundation training where you went to Med School has happened in the past, what are the chances?
So, QE in Birmingham or Friarage in Northallerton/James Cook in Middlesborough seem to be the only two that'll mean I can get home for a day off.
What are the chances of RN posted there, or are they mainly Army/RAF?
I'd also rather shave my eyeball than live at Catterick/Leeming and commute an hour each way, so would just asking (hoping) for Birmingham be the better option? Leeming to Friarage would be an absolute gift though.
I'd rather have a bed in hospital accom to just lay my head after shift than commute long distances. Anybody have any idea where the F1/2s end up accommodated? And any top gen/advice?

I've invited KernowDoc to chip in, but I was also wondering, as I can't give you an answer which you would find helpful, whether asking the Naval Recruiting Team which specialises in the Medical Branch would be useful. Their number is 02392 727096, I think that they are still able to take calls. Give them a try tomorrow.

I do wish that we still had AngryDoc on Navy-Net; he's a serving RN Medical Officer and knew the answer to absolutely everything.

Yes I've a login. Although none of us have actually been given access, my account is legacy from past service. MyNavy app works, despite the robbing bastards 'losing' my LSA days!

It's been a few years since I did my House jobs and the system has changed substantially since then. Accommodation was certainly available for these first year for those that needed it in my day.

James Cook is a good place to work, I worked in Teeside for 11 years. Agree living in Catterick might be best avoided. No insight on my part on how the foundation years are managed by the Navy sorry.

The specialist medical recruiting team are very helpful and are definitely still available for advice as I received an email from them on Friday.
