MCD - Career paths? Officer?

#1
I was wondering, I'm looking to join as an MCD in a few years and i was wondering about the career paths from that.

Are you able to join as an officer in the diving branch of the navy? If so, what are your responsibilities.

If not, whats the furthest you can progress as an MCD?

Thanks

Diving officer (not sure that's the name, but you get the overall idea) is a specialism of Warfare Officer, but you can't join as one straight off. You'd have to go through the OOW phase and then get into it, as one would with any other specialism.

Thanks for the reply,

How long of training do you have to do before you branch off into different specialisations? And is it your choice, or do you get recommendations from trainers to do certain specialisations

Thanks

It is quite a long time before you can apply to be an MCDO you have to do your sea time as a YO then do your OOW tests. After this you join your first ship as a qualified OOW after that I think you have to wait for a selection course after getting a recommendation. With regards to joining up as a MCD you can progress as far as WO1 in the branch but I know of PO's who then went over to the dark side and became Officers. This way they will automatically be an MCDO as they have all the diving and EOD quals required.

Hope this helps.

The choice of your sub-specialisation will not entirely be your choice - you will have a preference, but the needs of the service come first. For Aircrew, Fighter Controller and MCDO there are aptitude tests to be passed for starters....
Remember though, Aircrew, Submariners and Divers get paid more (some say faster).
