Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Anyone heard anything about the replacement programme for the old fleet tankers?

Assuming the new Aircraft Carriers are still built will we able to RAS them or will they being staying in Pompey stuck in a basin?
  2. Re: New Carriers - Will they ever get to sea ?

The contract for the Fleet tankers is supposed to be let within 18 months. Before that, an assessment of the six different bidders is being undertaken to downselect to the option to go forward with.

Having said that, we've been here before 18 months ago when the clueless [email protected] stopped the selection process at the last minute, in the middle of a worldwide shipbuilding recession (builders would have given ships away!) to avoid an in-year overspend. So - don't hold your breath........
  3. Re: New Carriers - Will they ever get to sea ?

Relax; Fisher Marine or the like will rent them to us. All we need to do is provide the seamen and clankies.

Save to spend; it's the future.

Cheers guys the mind boggles. it just makes you wonder if the bean counters have clue what is going on in the real world !
  5. Re: New Carriers - Will they ever get to sea ?

Isnt it part of the job requirement to not know anything outside of the small world that is their office?

Is that Abbey Wood speak for 'pick one' ?
  7. After watching Ch4 dispatches I was horrified to see the amount of money wasted by Home Office and MOD mandarins this has to be reinvested into the fleet.
  8. Yeah, dealt with them too long! On the other hand "pick one" doesn't quite cover the endless navel-gazing and prevarication involved........
