Management technique for the modern RN

Well here are a few musings that could apply to Senior Rates and Officers.

They should enter their place of employment with this thought in mind!

“Suicide is the most sincere form of self-criticism”

If that fails to strike any bells then perhaps thy should consider some of the following points of great management:

1. Indecision is the key to flexibility

2. There absolutely no substitute for the lack of preparation

3. The facts although interesting are irrelevant

4. The careful application of terror is also a form of communication

5. Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast in the real world

6. Things are more like they are today than they have ever been

7. Anything worth fighting for is worth fighting dirty for

8. Everything should be made as simple as possible but no simpler

9. Friends may come and go but enemies accumulate

10. I have seen the truth, “But it makes no sense”

11. If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame

12. By the time you make ends meet they have moved the ends

13. There is not a single shred of evidence to support the notion that life is serious

14. There is always one more imbecile than you counted on

And a last thought for booties and other action men in our company:

“Never wrestle with a pig. You will both get dirty but the pig likes it.”

My favourite has always been the RN decision making mantra;

"Decision followed by indecision, then undecision, confusion and anarchy".
