Just a Jolly for Guzz ships  whilst the Pompey workhorse's carry on as normal operationally

Can I just clarify - a deployment does not mean going around Drake's Island to the breakwater and back! At least 42s actually sail to another time zone...

Ah the good old Guz verses DSC debate, brings to mind that old chestnut from the 80's - How do you get a 42 to sea? Send two Guz based 21's!

Can we say from this deployment then the RN/MOD Planners consider that three type 23 ie an extra one to replace the French FF and HMS Daring to replace the USN DDG and two SSN's are sufficient to defend a world wide deployed task force of a LPD, LPH and four large RFA's from air, surface and submarine and mine threats.

As has been previously so adroitly said "YER AVING A LAUGH AIN'T YER"
The whole might of a USN Task force failed to keep one RAN Collins Class SS, not fitted with air independent propulsion, away from its core Carrier

Purple people wish to comment?

A really useful exercise with its facile assumption that no air cover is needed over the beaches and no air strike capability against the 'enemy'.

If there isn't going to be any opposition allowed we might just as well have a war plan based on using cross-channel ferries.

We could just about invade Wales on that basis but it wouldn't be worth it.

Go directly to Gulf, do not pass Gulf etc. etc. If Ocean doesn't break down before it gets to the far end of the Med I'll be astonished, and what's the betting that once these ships are in the Gulf they won't be retasked? I just can't see it coming off.

PS- I know that all those Isle of Wight guardship tours have been arduous for you 42 ratings.

It does seem rather odd to send four LPD/LPH's on an exercise with no air support and only four surface escorts... but then again, I suppose you should train as you expect to fight.

I must be getting old…

I can remember when just Sea Days off the Isle of Widget included a dozen of so Destroyers and Frigates, a Cruiser, a Sub, some RFA's and a proper Carrier along with it's couple of dozen Phantoms and Buccs tearassing around and dropping lots of BANG! things…

The next international crisis is just around the corner no doubt. Call me a conspiracy theorist but remember when we went into Afghan just after 9/11? All those troops and ships conveniently located...
