Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi, new here.

I'm looking into joining as an MA, particularly interested in a career on boats, however a lot of people on here are advising doing a few years GS first.
One of the things that interests me about MA(SM) is all the health physics/radiation safety stuff. So with that, steering the boat at sea and general housekeeping there's obviously plenty to do, but what about general surface?
Wondering if anyone could tell me a bit more about what skimmer MAs do when they're not handing out sticky plasters/Ibuprofens and of course cleaning?

  2. Reading porn, playing Uckers, bumming beer, getting their heads down; the usual stuff. Oh, and if they are on their own (no MO onboard) being constantly anxious about serious illness or injury to a shipmate and what to do about it.
  3. And lifting scabs cos your a ferkin "scablifter",ok you have a nice day now ya hear, :D
  4. :thumbright: Sound alright! Where do I sign?
  5. Im going for MA(GS) and I was told during my interview, when I asked howmuch sea-time I would get, that atm a lot of Navy MO'S and MA's are in Afgan.
  6. I was thinking of joining as an MA but my AFCO pointed out that I was not very good at it the first time
