Logistics Officer

Hello all,

I've just booked my RT test for 2 weeks time. I'm hoping to apply as a logistics officer. At the moment I'm a teacher working in Nepal and I'm 29 yrs old. I know this question has been done to death, but ..... Is it a bit old to start and will I be an old dodderer compared to most? Also, how tough are the fitness tests? I'm reasonably fit, but it would be handy to have some first hand info.

Lastly, are there any specific skills that the navy are looking for in the interview? I've got a degree in Russian. Would that help in the recruitment process? Any interview tips would be appreciated.

Cheers

Assuming you have lived outside of UK for more than six months in the last five years it's worth pointing out security clearance will take significantly longer and could delay entry in time to meet the upper age bracket. You'll also need a residency waiver.

Whilst not necessarily too old, as long as you are fit and accepting of younger people in authority, you should not have an issue.

As a teacher already, I'd be inclined to advise you to at least consider Training Management Officer but again, you'll need to get a wiggle on, age-wise.

Okay. So last chance saloon basically. I'm thinking of joining next March, so the I'm not too worried about the security clearance. Out of curiosity how long does the whole process take from RC to AIB?

When you say 'younger people', how old do you mean approximately?

Thanks very much!

Security Clearance can take many months and the age limits apply to age upon entry, not age upon making an application. Recruit Test to AIB typically takes about six to eight months, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.

Feasibly there could be people ten years younger than you who are senior in rank & service experience.

Thanks for letting me know about the security clearance. Sounds like a bit of a drag!

I think the age limit is 31 so I should be fine. However, I'll see how my application goes as I don't want to be waiting around too long.

Having recently had a "junior" Logs Officer who was 30, my only point to you would be your age won't excuse you sh*tty tasks. Some of what we do is seniority based, and you'll be bottom of the pile. Suck it up and don't whinge.

Go TMO and you can be 45 and this may still be happening. ATG gives good advice... :D
