Logistics Officer Role - Information & Advice

I've recently been on a logistics acquaint and would highly recommend it. All the questions you have asked will be answered thoroughly and in depth. There were people there who had been on a few to get an idea of what they wanted to do.

Don't forget they also have Sausage Counters (logs Officers) in Boats too. You get to do LOADS of exciting stuff there, if thats what you're after! Not sure about the colour blind thing, though?

ha obviously now, but you get the gist (i hope)

although i must say, recent coverage of the navy's work on the humanitarian (Philippines etc) side of things has really impressed me

I am also seriously considering the logistics officer route, and I would like to know how involved they get in humanitarian relief work.

It's one of the aspects of the military that I am most interested in, providing assistance, helping with aid work and peacekeeping. It's also something that the British military are increasingly involved with.

My question is, which branch deals with that kind of stuff? If a ship docked to provide disaster relief, who would organise the actual shore operation? Warfare officers, logistics officers or RM officers?

Thanks!

The majority of the Philippines aid effort was down to the logistics branch.

I think that the medics that went ashore to provide aid and advice, the engineers that made repairs to infrastructure ashore and the WAFUs that flew during that effort and the warfare teams that planned the ops and drove the ship might object to that statement, what happened to 'all of one company'?

hi guys,

just looking into specialisations as well.

what areas can LO go into? I've saw a video mentioning the AACC, would this mean linking up with the Commando Logistics Regiment etC? any other specialisations would be great to know about

I presume Jim is somewhere else. Because I'm on my phone, in brief, loggies can do logistics, executive support, naval and operational law or management accountancy. You'll specialise in one, maybe 2 of them. AACC is available, from what I remember there are 6 or 7 posts that require it.

Thanks, that's useful.

I was also wondering what my long term promotion opportunities would be like. I am right in thinking the only way to become a ship's captain is to go down the warfare path?

I know that logistics will always involve admin, and desk work, but it would be good to know that you get involved in some more exciting stuff once in a while - and that it isn't a dead end in terms of promotion.

I'm also trying to work out which branch gives you more transferable skills in the civvie world (my interest is in NGOs, and international bodies like the UN).

Thanks for all the responses so far by the way, I've found them really useful.

entering as a rating could I consider AACC?

The only assured route gaining a green beret is by joining as a Royal Marine. Whilst theoretically possible to undertake AACC, there are very few Officer or Ratings that are actually employed in a Commando role - if there were, the billet would be male only.

just filled out my officer application form. The questions relating to AIB, values, courage etc - anyone got any tips for those sections?

Also allergic to Penicillin, had a bad reaction when i was young. Should I prepare anything (medical notes etc) for the medical to save on delays etc?

I have an allergy to penicillin: direct quote from many, many Naval Doctors - if you need it, we'll give you it and sort out the anaphylaxis later...

Has anyone got contacts for a serving logistics officer who may be willing to talk to me directly and answer a few questions i have before taking the plunge? Also would it be best to just crack on with the application and see what happens rather than diddle around not applying until the questions i have are answered?

Hi all,

This is my first post here, but I've been reading for while now and found it very useful.

Does anyone know how many overseas/at sea deployments a logistics officer is expected to undertake? My wife and family have asked about this and I would like to get them as much info as I can.

All help much appreciated.
