Living conditions at HMNB Clyde?

#1
So I start training in October, and then my phase 2 as a Mine Warfare Specialist will obviously follow.
I am aware that my phase 2 will take place at HMS Collingwood, and once I graduate I will be(according to my AFCO this is a definite) based at HMNB Clyde just outside of Glasgow/Faslane.
What are the living arrangements? Are they single or shared accommodation? Is the mess up to standard? What are the gyms like?
I’ve obviously got a lot of questions in anticipation for this part of my life as I’m dead excited. Any info will be much appreciated!
Thanks guys.

If you are a Mine Warfare specialist you will not spend much time in the shore accommodation. When assigned to a Sandown you will live onboard when alongside in the naval base unless you have your own accommodation outside the wire. The only time you’ll live in the shore accommodation is periods not assigned to a ship. The accommodation is top notch, mainly single but with some shared and older stuff. The mess facilities for JRs seem good and the gym is top notch and open 24 hours.

I’m not sure how the AFCO can state definitely that you’ll be at Faslane unless it’s your preference. There are Mine Warfare vessels in Portsmouth also so unless it’s your stated preference there is a chance you could end up down south.

Yeah I thought it was a bit weird how my AFCO said for definite I will be in Glasgow. I live just outside of Edinburgh so maybe they’ve just assumed that my preference as I’ve not said I would like to go down south. Either way thanks for the info that’s actually really helpful. :)

Well, I'm gutted. I'm sitting here in Southern Spain at only 27 or 28 degrees and see on the news that Glasgow managed to hit 31.9 degrees yesterday. WHAT? Even the Armadillo is melting!

I always said I'd go 'back home' if global warming kicked in - is it time to start packing?
