Still got my kit book(s) , but it’s obsolete now, all done online through the “my navy” app and the stores team’s MJDI. We can tell if you’ve never been issued anything so you can’t blag it now. I e even got my Pace stick for sea cadets on it!

My kit record book is around somewhere, not seen since house move, my kit bag my eldest borrowed it some 20 years ago to carry his outdoor pursuits stuff, still in his shed.

We seriously took the p*ss at JFH, found the online clothing manual and just ordered stuff. The crabs had a online form you simply emailed to stores and they ordered it, the crabs didn't know what were allowed to have, Submariners Jumpers, seamans knifes.... it was a free for all :)

I know, I had one, that's why I said they have expiry dates now - because any that don't have one shouldn't be accepted as valid for entry.
When in Collinggrad we used to try and see what we could show and still get in, Fag packet, bank cards ETC, ID checkers get a bit lacks with boredom.
Did see a young chap on Raleigh main gate, his brief no ID card no entry, black car frying some big wigs flag, he pulls it over and says ID please, the gold braid in the back no ID, young chap stood his ground from his brief. Chief of guard was about to give him a talking to when from the back of the car he was congratulated for his vigilance, whilst laughing.

Mate if mine regularly got into Pompey dockyard with a fag packet. Pedestrian gate by the ferry, far side from the mod plod gatehouse and say good morning as you stroll in waving your fag packet.

Had a few ID cards over the years. First was a piece of card with your photo stuck on in a plastic envelope, then a laminated plastic card, followed by the present one without expiry date followed by one with an expiry date.

oppo of mine got 9s and was sent to clean the reg office in Neptune, this was in the laminated ID card era, and he was unsupervised. He made himself an ID card with a gorillas face on the photo and official number of 007. He used it for years up until they went to the new style.

Awaiting release interspersed with spells in RNH Haslar which took the best part of two years I periodically stood in for the civvy who ran the release clothing store. It was amazing how many mates I acquired. I didn’t take the exercise seriously, round the back of the counter out of sight were piles of kit that I was pretty sure were destined for disposal if it ever reached the Victualling yard.
The fly in the ointment with Jack was if you gave him something buckshee and told him not to tell anyone you were guaranteed a ten fold increase in customers looking for similar In short order.
Everyone who passed through got the rubber stamp regardless of the amount of kit they handed in and I think the civvy store keeper was of a similar mind.
