I was emergency drafted to a ship when the killick reg was beer bosun. Thank **** I only spent 3 weeks on that ship.

That was the hardest thing for me, when I did it. Crusher in mess. ****** didn’t even drink!! Used to ask me and LHOM, ‘where’s all the spare lockers gone’?

On the subject of volunteering, whilst onboard HMS Cardiff 1993 I volunteered to join a team to go ashore and act as dockyard workers at Portland for a CO desig course, essentially the ship would come alongside, we would drop the lines on the bollard and then release in order for the ship to go around again with another potential CO in the hot set.

I ended up in Weymouth hospital after the third evolution, setting aside personal injuries suffered the Navy changed its harbour routines fairly sharply after that incident.

Other than carriers, it's a pointless exercise making a Woo LHOM. Small ships, LOFO applies and flying stations are usually when LHOM's are needed, (rounds and such).
Ashore as a Woo - fair play.
Like you, in 25 years, never did LHOM. Never wanted LHOM either. Had enough sh1t to do just maintaining my own workload!!!
