remember that year sago, making WO, Subbies, big hike in pension, and for the ones I spoke to, no real difference in the job, stupid not to take.

Army have been doing it for years.
My Step Nephew was a WO1 in the signals and towards the end of his service was offered a commission if he signed on.
He reckoned that he was so much in demand in civie Street that he would be a mug to take it.
Happens he was right :)

They get c6 years as a Lt, and can compete for promotion. I know at least one was a Lt Cdr about three years after leaving BRNC.

I was speaking to the Command WO at the RNA conference last weekend and will be getting promoted to LT. It must be worth doing (apart from the better pension) to go from the most senior WO job to becoming another LT
