Captain Mark Windsor, RN Captain Sea Cadet Corps awarded 18 special service medals for 50 years of adult service to Sea Cadet volunteers at the Charity's Annual Court on Wednesday 12 October 2011. This equates to about almost a millennium of service between them. This was the first presentation of this new award to recognises volunteers unwavering commitment and incredible dedication to supporting young people across the Sea Cadet Corps. Congratulations to all the winners, who are named below...
...Lt Cdr (SCC) Rowles RNR...
That was in 2011, so nine years ago, so my calculation of 54 years now (2020) appears to be low.
If he had done 50 years in 2011, then he is on 59 years service now, not 54.
I'm beginning to wish I had not started this....
4 Eligibility and Conditions of Service for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers
e.Retirement. CFAV [Cadet Force Adult Volunteers] will usually retire at the stated retirement age, unless they request through s-Svc chains of command and are accepted by them to extend their service. Any approved extension beyond the stated retirement age should be granted one year at a time and is subject to the health and fitness of the applicant being deemed to be of satisfactory standard.
I think I read somewhere on this forum that nowadays if you haven't made killick by the time you've done 12 years you are shown the door.Don't get many AB's (standfast the VRSM and AB Blackburn) receiving the LSGC these days, I remember CU had a load of fleet AB's back in the late 80's.
A mate of mine is a serving 2 and 1/2, if the AB is happy and doing their job satisfactorily they can stay in until time done. He is down as a reference for a 22 year AB that left the RN last year. What ever floats your boat!I think I read somewhere on this forum that nowadays if you haven't made killick by the time you've done 12 years you are shown the door.
LT CDR David Rowles SCC was the CO of Twickenham Sea Cadets when I was a cadet 75-78 and certainly offered me guidance growing prior to joining the RN and has now completed 60 years service to the SCCSeventh? Blimey.
How long has he/she done for that?
