  1. Can anyone help?

I'm not the most switched on computer user, but recently checked online for info on which memory upgrade to buy and once ordered the bloody stick appears incompatible, despite it being plastered all over the net that it should be? can anyone enlighten me please before i send it back?

My computer is an old Compaq Evo N600c which currently has only 128meg of PC133s-333-540-B1 memory in.

All the memory retailers sites say i can use 2 x 512meg of PC133 CL3 as it is the 'correct' module for the beast and the maximum capacity, so why won't it boot up? All i get is the 'Compaq' home screen prior to boot then it shuts down again!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can enlighten me!

  2. Just as a quick answer, remove one at a time and see what happens, you could have a dud. Also make sure that the modules are properly seated

  3. Thanks for that guys.

Interestingly already scanned the computer with the crucial memory checker and it says the memory i've bought is the correct one. Tried four different 512meg sticks now and all with the same result. Weird eh?

  4. Download and run 'Belarc'. It'll tell you if you are ok with that slot.

  5. Thanks Sam! Appreciate that! I'll give it a go!

    Appreciate all the suggestions guys!
