What's the latest on finding a Maths course?

I'm going to call a few numbers on monday. The AFCO gave me a list of local colleges etc and contacts to get in touch with so I don't think it will be a problem. I did look at that learning direct site but I think a course with a tutor will be best. I've also ordered off amazon that book about passing psychometric tests for the armed services. Apparently that has helped a lot of people out.
Err! What did you do with all those years at school??

Don't mean to put you under more pressure, but fail again and you're barred from applying to the RN again. That's what my CA said anyway. He said you only get two attempts at the written tests for selection.

If it makes you feel any better, my mate has a degree in engineering and he failed his mechanical comprehension. He wanted to go in as AET. Rather ironic how things work out sometimes.

lol, well I did get a C in GCSE Maths and did really well in everything else. I've got A-Levels too

Joe90, I am not actually that surprised by that. The way degrees are taught often means that you can academically know loads about a subject but still struggle with applying it. The armed services look for those that can apply knowledge effectively. Funnily enough, I'm a law graduate. I dominated every section but have always just had a issue with maths and that is where I fell flat. So yeah, it is very true that these things just don't work out how you expect sometimes.

Hi m8 i did the same as u about 12 months ago and was allowed to retake my test after 6 months with proof that i'd done maths tutoring and then passed. I also used a good book that my afco recomended witch was Suceed At Psycometric Tests (millatry) witch i found very good. i'll try and find the website i got it from an i'll let u know. good luck.

Can anyone explain the psychometric test to me?
When I joined if you could write your name and add up your pay you were in. A darkened room with three little red green and white lights to identify, turn your back and hear whispered words and a standard eye test. MO listened to your chest, asked you cough while playing with your testicles, that was the best bit

The four part psychometric test consists of 120 multiple choice questions to complete in 44 minutes.

It was introduced by the Royal Navy in 1943 & has been in constant use since- even for conscripts.

 Proof, if ever there was, that literacy standards remain high.

Irony is sometimes wasted, however.

I'm sorry to hear that. 12 months is a long time. If I were you I would get a Maths tutor, maybe once a week?
When I did my psychometric test (last week) I found that practicing speed/distance/time and long multipication/division/subtraction/adding helped nicely.

All the best

I totally agree with the tutor thing, my little brother had an 'unclassified' for his mock maths, so my mother paid for a tutor for him for a couple of months and he ended up with a B in his actual GCSE. Good luck for the next time
