Joining waiting times

Just out of curiosity really.
I am amazed how long it takes to join up when reading this page and talking to the newer lads I work with, why is that?.
19 years ago when I started the process, it was around 9 weeks from the first time I walked through the door at the AFCO to being on the bus on the way to Raleigh.

Across the branches, it was much quicker than today. I get it back then there was a recruitment drive after the redundancies in the 90s but still.....

I wish it only took that long now. I think the number of people applying is increasing but the number of people passing is decreasing. I think making the military look too friendly in their marketing was a bad decision.

I think the latest RN adverts (along with the Marines) were pretty decent (much better than the gash servedu p years ago)

the Army ads however.........
