As mentioned on another thread my son has had the all clear from Capita on the additional information provided by his GP. So the triage stage is now OK. The message from the Navy said they will now apply for a slot for him to join the Navy. Any ideas how long this takes and as he still needs a face to face medical, I am a bit confused. Any insight gratefully received! The message also indicated he will be able to provide evidence of meeting the PJFT standard once he has a slot. I assume this would take the place of a test in a gym as they are all closed in Wales.

Not sure but I was told I had a date requested too. It was mentioned again by my AFCO after my face to face medical. Will just have to wait and see when it comes through I guess!

Thanks for the reply. What branch are you joining and how long did it take to get the medical? My son applied for AET. I see the priority roles involve submarines to a large extent so I wonder if applicants for subs will get priority. Are you through the fitness test stage?

I am going for AET too, we may be in same intake. I was told by my AFCO that it will be around late March/April, it could be the same for your son! Yes, they are definitely going through each step quicker from what I’ve seen. I am hoping to get it booked soon, I passed the medical about 2-3 weeks ago now. Will post in the Raleigh thread when I get my date

Hi SD,
The process is a little skewed at the moment. The general rule of thumb regarding medicals is that your son will need a joining date first and then go onto a waiting list for the Face to face medical. The face to face medicals should take place at least 12 weeks prior to joining. However if there is spare capacity at the local Medical Examiners then your son may be lucky enough to get an earlier medical. I'm not sure how this will be effected in the Tier three areas though so you should check with you AFCO.
As for the fitness test, again it depends on the region and if the Gyms are still taking the PJFT. If the gyms near the AFCO are not doing fitness testing then your son will need to provide proof of his exercise routine, and the fact that he is taking regular exercise. This can be 'proved' by use of apps on mobile phones like strava (sceen shots).

Thanks for that. We are in Wales with a strict lockdown for 2 weeks and we don't know what will follow. I guess the AFCO will see what pans out. He is doing press ups etc and regular runs and getting well within the time limit so hopefully no issues there.

Everything seems to have gone quiet with respect to starting dates. Will there be a flourish of activity in the new year I wonder. Anyone in the know?

Not a parent but my AFCO said dates are being pushed back for those delayed due to Covid. She said next block of March-July will be booked in soon. I could hear back in Jan now (passed medical in Oct) and she “hopes” I’m within that lot!

Hi all, My lad has just passed his PJFT today (15-12-20), but was given a starting date of 12-04-21 yesterday. He has had the Capita medical, eye test etc, but no face to face medical yet.
i was wondering if the process had been amended due to the pandemic?
Will he have a F2F medical at some point before April- Its not an issue, just a genuine question as all the process seems to be out of sync at the moment.
He is going for Weapons Engineer Submariner.
Thanks in Advance.

That's a priority role I believe, my boy is AET which isn't priority. He started his application back in April so getting quite impatient!

Hi. I’m looking for a bit of advice. My son started his application in July 2019. Capita and his recruitment coordinator have been so utterly useless and what has happened along the way is beggars belief!! He had his medical in February, had to lose a little weight which he did straight away and sent in his doctors letter in March. He has been speaking with his coordinator on the phone regularly since - the last time 2 weeks ago where he had been pushing him for confirmation on where he is on his application, and to get a start date. Well, Wednesday, my husband , purely by chance, spoke to a recruitment chap who looked into my sons case and said it was on hold since February due to the medical issue which is still outstanding, and his recruitment coordinator was reallocated in September !!!!! Strangely, he had an email from the new recruitment coordinator Wednesday afternoon pretty much asking if he was still interest in his application as nothing had happened since February. And now they’ve all gone on leave until the new year. My son is devastated and has no idea what the heck is going on!!!! Is there anywhere we can go for help?? We were warned before he started his application that capita were useless, but to keep pushing if it went quiet. For goodness sake it took countless phone calls and 2 months before he got his application form through. I could cry at the utter incompetence, but Wednesdays news was unbelievable!!!!!

How incredibly frustrating. I can only assume that if you have clarified everything and are back on track it will just be a matter of (even more) time. Makes my boy's 8 months seem pretty insignificant.

It is not often I say this, but there may be merit in dropping a line to your MP about this experience.

It won't help you in the short term, but it might cause some to sit up and take notice about what is happening. We are chronically undermanned as it is without chinning off those who are keen to get stuck in.

A Petty Officer (AE) said this to me earlier in the year so we are optimistic things will come through.

MoD are convinced that all is well, as VSOs keep getting invited to passing out parades, therefore recruiting is fine.

@Mum's the Word I can understand your frustrations as I am in the same predicament. Have you had any news as of yet?. Maybe @Ninja_Stoker can shed some light on this?. As i am led to beleive capita is in control of organising your F2F medical directly and I've got to say by the sounds of posts on this forum, every one is in the same position. It's probably just a case of waiting on capita.

HI- we have not had any word regarding the F2F medical- however he has been sent and completed/returned his security clearance form- so wheels are turning.
