Joining the RFA (ex RN aircraft handler )

Cubano

Newbie
Just a bit of advice if possible , I was med discharged from the navy in around 2007 for having a seizure , absolutely gutted, and in my eyes a one off. Since then I've never had any kind of seizure or blacked out , nothing just lived my life normal, driving etc, my local GP, has told me that there is no way that I have epilepsy , and it was a one off, he seems to think that if I can get a eng1 (think this is what's it called) there shouldn't be a issue in joining the RFA( which I've alwaysed been interested in) but then again what dies he know!! Anybody shed any light on this, be much appreciated, thanks

In answer to your question I put up a post a while ago re medical standards for ENG1 and someone else put up a really detailed document as well.
Had a quick dig through and came up with this, hope it helps?
Have a look through both documents on that post, loads of info in there just takes a bit of time. Good luck!

Well from that document it would appear (from your medical history you've provided) that you would be able to get an unrestricted ENG1 - BUT I'm not a doctor so it might be wise to find a local doctor that carries out ENG1 medicals and check with him or her first, just to make sure.

With regards to next steps, phone the RFA recruitment line and discuss what role you'd be interested in with them, they can advise you accordingly and will point you in the right direction.

I found this site very helpful when I was first applying, loads of people gave me some really good advice. It's highly likely some of your queries would have been covered before on here so I'd use the search button as well if I were you :)
