The loss of the treaty ports was an utter disaster for the allies but there's a growing movement in some quarters to try and downplay the effect as if it didn't really matter, that it was almost irrelevant. Can anyone point me in the way of some quotes, historical works or info accessible via the web which proves what a calamity it was in the Battle of the Atlantic?
