Introduction of JPA

I'm off for ORT soon and have been told in my joing instructions to get an advance of pay, subsistence and accommodation. As the old pay system has closed down and JPA is not yet "live", I'm not going to be able to do this.

As I don't get paid by my employer when I go for ORT, I have a few choices available.
1. Withdraw my name from the ORT.
2. Put it all on my credit card and hope to be paid before Xmas.
3. Take out a loan.

I'm not particularly happy with any of these and don't think I should be in a position of having to pay the RN to go on ORT, which is effectively what I'm going to be asked to do! Can you imagine the look on family's faces when Xmas comes along and no pressies? "Sorry, kiddies, Daddy had to go away with the Navy and has no money left to buy you presents this year"

I'm sure I'm not the only one in this position. It's not the fault of my RU's UPO either as they are pretty good people.

Has anyone else had the same problems? Any views, tips or just plain rants most welcome!

We have just had the brief from the JPA team who said that, unlike the RAF, all pay offices will keep an emergency stash of cash to pay subsistance claims etc directly whilst JPA is bedding in. Your UPO should be able to cope with your needs.

My UPO claims not to have any emergency cash for this type of event but it would seem the sensible thing to do. It's not like they didn't know it was going to happen! Maybe I should do a temporary transfer to your unit, SF??!!

It's funny when we all post comments about recruitment/retention/poor morale that the "people" in authority seem far removed from the reality of actually what it's like to be in the RNR and how, with a little thought and planning, things could be done so much better. I often think that the system constantly fails the majority of the troops. Not sure what the answer is. Feeding things up through the divisional system sounds great but does it work and can it respond quickly? Probably not, certainly for the RNR.

Not good. If your UPO had cash before the introduction of JPA, then they should still have some to cover the switch over - that is fact.. My only advice would be to withdraw from ORT - your absolutely right that you should not lend the RN money in advance!! and paying for yourself in the anticipation that it will be resolved quickly is a high risk strategy

I agree JPA will be very difficult and with any major implementation some things are bound to go wrong , But actually the powers that be have been working with the RN and MOD for some time to attempt to premept most major issues. JPA is not an RNR initiative and we are merely falling in lin to accept it , please use your divisional system or PRIVATE MESSAGE me and i promise to do my best to passs on issues at the rush

Plese private message me if you dont get this resolved. I will do my best to help you out and pull some strings if i can

If you speak to your Jimmy, as administrator of the unit welfare fund a loan is possible. After all why should your family suffer financialy due to your sevice.

I think JPA will be great ............... :D :D
........ :)
.... :?
...

:p eventually

Only if we get some working equipment. As a DO, I spend 30 mins warming up the PC and 20 mins trying to shut it down again. Not productive use of my time.

How can we use new systems on 1970's PC's. The system will work if they allow us acces outside the unit. I understand about security so even just have all reserve forces on an internet enabled system

every problem should be able to be overcome

No reservise should have to do without any money because of systems!! It is a big company and money can be found. :!:
