Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I joined the navy originally back in 2002 when i left high school. i was discharged after 8 weeks just as my class were getting ready to pass out.
i was discharged for basically to many kit warnings ect and just generally being to imature. i was barred from entry for at least 2yrs during wich time i went to college and got a trade as a tiler wich ive been doing ever since. i was recently made redundant and decided to try again for the navy. ive just passed my medical and 2.4 km run and the only thing standing in my way now is the interview wich i have on monday 8th march where the staff at the c/o have warned me they will make it more difficult and longer than usual interviews, so i was just after advice on what they will be looking for and what they will expect from me.
  2. Welcome to Rum Ration, Rik!

Start by browsing the interview thread, to refresh your memory:

I suspect that you are going to be assessed to see whether you have learned anything from what happened before and whether you have matured in the years since.
  3. Presumably they will be looking deeply into why you fcuked up last time and what the likelihood of you doing it again is.
  4. As a CA, I would be wanting to know what you have done since leaving, whether you have learnt any lessons since last joining. It will help if you do some good up to date research on Training, your Branch of Choice and the RN in general. Read the Navy News, get up to date with what is happening in the press at the moment.

You really need to be able to prove to the CA that you have matured and are fully ready to re-commence your career within the RN.

  5. yeh cheers for that quick reply, i think ill just have to show them that ive grown up alot and that the navys something ive always wanted to do.

Yep, problem with Marine Engineering is you need to be good looking as well as mature, so possibly that's where the problem lay previously.

Best of luck as a Warfare Specialist.
  10. HOW did you get in then NS??????

  13. cheers guys for your comments i'll let you all know how i get on
  14. Just a quicky to let you guys know i passed my interview but now my career advisor has told me that my application has still not been approved and that even though ive passed everything theres still a chance they can refuse me entry.
i was just wondering if any one new the likelihood of this actually happening as my career advisor wasnt really sure either way

It depends on the applicants murky past.

If they have a criminal history, a history of financial iresponsibility, are a political activist that has threatened to overthrow a government, or been a member of a terrorist organisation, then the MoD can (and do) turn around & say "Nah".

If you're a good egg & a snappy dresser, the odds are you should be reasonably OK - that said, don't give-up the day job just yet.

    Good luck.
  16. just letting people know that i got a phone call saying everythings fine with my application and that i just need to sit back and wait for a date :D
  17. Congrats, well done.
  18. Well Done, join the long wait :) It will be worth it in the end though! :D
