Int on the up?

I hear rumours that the Int branch is set to expand in the near-ish future. Can anyone confirm?

I also read on the RN website that "Future plans will further expand 1700 NAS specialist teams to include Intelligence Officers, dentists, chaplains and others as required". Sounds like slots for RNRs to me?

Not seen anything official with regard manning changes in the RNR Int branch, unless you include the ever-expanding cyber reserves branch.

But, if it happens, there'll doubtless be adverts for it on your pay chit & a DIN with the finer detail.

If it's on the RN website that 1700 Sqn is expanding, it's pretty much going to happen. That said, Intelligence Officers serving on RFAs is nothing new, so possibly they'll just come under the RFA embarked specialist force comnand umbrella rather than separate specialist units.

There is work in train looking at the future and expanded roles, as well as looking at existing branches and their justification/validation. With respect to 1700 NAS, some PIDs could be filled by MR, but I think in the main they're considering regular IntO and JR/SR to support ISR and the PEDery that is required, developing the Regulars, none of which prevents using MR as and when its sensible or required.
