Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I was wondering whether there's anything I would be able to do with the navy if my training clashes with a leave period.

I've been told I'm looking at the last intake in February or the first in March so if that's accurate, it'll clash with leave. I know you can't stay at Raleigh but the thought of having to stop training, going to do fcuk all at home and going back for 2-3 weeks is sh!t. :?

So, are recruits/trainees allowed to go on adventorous training or anything similar? If nobody knows I guess I'll wait and ask at the RNAC.

  2. Oh well, was just a thought. Thanks for the reply.

  3. Mmm Basic Trg at Raleigh, 2-3 weeks leave coming up, don't want to give up training....

Stuck for summit adventure'us to do, in Devon of all places? ever looked up Plymouth on a map, you know, map.. it's one of those 'land based' chart things.... shows more land than water.

Find Plymouth (easy, it's a big blob bottom L/H corner of Devon) look up and there's a massive unpopulated blob called Dartmoor

You may/may not have heard of the place, tis brill so it is, it's got lots of exciting things to do for the up 'n' coming keen trainee of today. Amongst the attractions there are some examples of local rock, commonly called 'Tors' Clicky Clicky A lot of these Tor's have Post Box's hidden on them with an old Post Mark Stamp in it, the idea being that you meander around the big field (Dartmoor) with an old notebook or map and collect these stamps

Now you could go sign yourself some gear out the stores, a half decent tent for a starter, might even think about a decent maggot too (it has been know to get a bit chilly up there) and don't forget a mobile 'fit in yer bag' galley. Food is no problem, there's more than one sheep wandering about the place just waiting for a young impressionable sailor to come along into it's life 8O (many use's a Dartmoor sheep.. keep ya warm in the night, breakfast in the morning, just ask the Chief about Daisy)

In fact I bet the Staff and the lads come to that would be well impressed if you spent the three weeks trotting around the Moors collecting wee stamps instead of going home and giving the lass one...

  4. Remind me not to follow you if you have a map in your hand.

  5. Yeah, okay that's a given  go for Bottom Left then...

  6. Yeh it's about time the RN revolved around the needs of recruits.

Take it to the european parliament and question your rights.

Another alternative, European Courts of Human Lefts (or was it Rights?) aside, is to state to your AFCO you are unable to join until after a set date, thereby saving thousands in court costs & deferring entry until you get a "straight run" at it without cluttering it up with namby-pamby leave & stuff.

    Sorted.

    Innit.

  8. So wait...You're being cnuts because I want to do Phase 1 instead of having 2 weeks off? **** sake.

  9. Rather naive thinking the RN will rotate around you and your desire to complete training in a 1er. Good job it's now and not in the times of Ganges when the RN would have sent you on 3 or 4 periods of leave.

Hope your balls drop and you grow up before February.

In days of yore, when the workforce was made of iron & the ships of wood, leave was a privilege.

Nowadays it's a right & we haven't got the spare manpower to continue training 24/7 unfortunately.

    Sorry, & all that.

    Thanks

  17. Core leave periods are: Christmas, Easter, Summer.

Can't be any more specific than that as they vary from base to base.
