I want to join the Navy

#1
Posted on behalf of a kid (Username - AllAboardTheBendyBus), who
has a broken computer at the moment. He asks:

"I wanna be a sailor and I think that if you have got them bands
in the Navy and stuff - can I join up as a Singer, and like not go
to sea or be away from home a lot. I know that you've got them
that play bugles and drums and stuff. I just like singing. Is there
a branch of Singers in the Navy then. Thanks.

p.s. I think I am pretty cool.

No, no, no, no!

You want to be in the Army. The Jock Army!

With your experience you can join as one of those guys with a big stick who walks in front of those who blow in the agony bags. You can pass them directions in a singsong kinda voice as you march up and down.

I can see you now, cutting a fine dash!

Of course there is, or there used to be. I remember Singers in the 60s which sometimes was followed by Honkers. The Eagle also carried Bugle boys, but they were not really needed as Jolly Jack frequently bugled in the dockyard.
