Hydrography or Meteorology?

I am trying to join the Royal Navy as a hydrographer or meteorologist, can anybody let me know the pros and cons of each, what the roles entail and how long is training and where? Answers are much appreciated! - CeeJay

Officer or rating?

HM Officer - http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/careers...ace-fleet/hydrography-and-meteorology-officer

HM Specialist (rating) - http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/careers...-fleet/hydrography-and-meteorology-specialist

Initial training for ratings is 10 weeks at HMS Raleigh; 30 weeks for officer, at Dartmouth.

I believe you start off as HM (both) then specialise in one or the other later on, so plenty of time to assimilate enough information to make an informed decision once you're in.

H - working on survey vessels mainly.
M is mostly relevant to stuff that flies.
