How many astutes will the navy actually get?

Welcome to the Navy Net aka Rum Ration

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial RN website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Weve only actually ordered 4, are the MOD actually going to order the other 3-4?

Or are we likely to end up with less boats than the australian navy?
  2. Defence minister recently said we would get all 7 when he visited barrow. But then he is MP for barrow.
Read in to it what you want. But if they want to keep building subs in the UK then they are going to have to order more than 4. Otherwise the work will dry up before the replacment for trident comes around.

Visited Barrow a couple of months ago. Quite a sight standing in the middle of Devonshire dock.
  5. After Astute's little hiccup, Artemis would be a good name for one of them.
Any ideas for other names?
  6. Which hiccup is that WreckerL?
  7. Nothing major, it was to do with lub oil. Nuff said

  8. ALAAAAAAAAARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. They have already ordered the Long Lead time materials for boat 5. So at least 5....allegedly

  10. What about a sneaky boat called Al Queda? That ought to confuse the bar stewards!! :D
  11. Should have let Electric Boat buy Barrow.

  12. What happened to the 8th sub? has that gone the same way as 6 Daring Class destroyers?
  13. C'mon!

You know the spin by now… 'Increased operational capability'…blah, blah, blah, 'increased operational footprint'… blah, blah, blah… "increased operational availabilty'… blah, blah, blah.

  14. Oops sorry sir, I'll just pop back downstairs and tend to my mushrooms.

  15. That's better!

FWIW, if McBroone had his way we would only have had 4 Darings. They spent a good amount of effort trying to flog off hulls 5 & 6 to the Saudis.
