How long must a new recruit commit?

As a rating, how many years do you have to commit after phase 2 training?

I want to commit for about at least 4 years initially and then renew depending on circumstances. But, is that an option?

One for @Ninja_Stoker but generally (branch dependant) once your past the 6 month point you're in for 4 years.

As @WreckerL states, your minimum is around 4 years if you don't wrap in the first six months.

Basically, you must complete initial Naval training & branch training then serve 30 months return of service (RoS) before you can submit 12 month's notice to quit at any point thereafter. Student Nurses RoS is 42 months.
