Pass through Wimbledon on the train every time you travel to Pompey , apart from the tennis it is a shit hole.

There you have it! And it's considered one of the nicer parts of London to live in!

.....after '' shit hole '' I should have added.....compared to York , sleepy town compared to other city's , I can do a guide to my City if anyone is interested , best places to stay , independent small hotels , places to eat , again loads of independent , one street in particular is the old Roman road that splits the city into 2 halves entered either end through a '' Bar''...the opening through the medieval walls. South end is spitting distance from my local The Rook , this is Walmgate and about half way down the eateries start , English Bistro , Argie Steak House , Thai , HIGH END bistro , no Michelin stars yet but in the Mich' guide 4 yrs running , HIGH END has a cheaper spot 4 doors down.
Street then morphs into Fossgate at the Red Lion pub , on Foss Bridge is a Polish place that serves some of the best food in town , reasonable prices and the helpings are very generous.........as I said I will do a full guide if anyone wants it if you are planning a w/end oop North in the future.

Had a fairly nice meal in Marzano Italian in Fossgate last year. Wanted to try the Loch Fyne but it was too busy.

That's ok as long as the gravy / sauce / flavouring in a restaurant meal is gluten free. And when you are trudging around Guz (like last weekend) it can be difficult to find something.

Can only agree with @Stirling - me and mrs LBG lucky enough to live within easy reach of the city - and never tire of walking round the place - not sure about the possible HoL move but it would at least put the North in general in the public eye and showcase what is on offer here - now if only we could get a decent airport for direct long haul flights ......
