  1. Hi all, hope you can help.

Recently went to portsmouth dockyard to take my young son on HMS Victory. At the bow of the ship is a coat of arms with the words....."Onysois Que Malle Pense" or something very similar (sorry if the spelling is incorrect).

I know this saying from my school days....can anyone tell me what it stands for please?

    Regards

    Gary

  2. Hi Gary,

According to the official site HMS VICTORY it means Shame to him who evil thinks.

Edit - It's the motto of the Order of the Garter. Apparently.

  3. Many thanks to you..

    Cheers

    Gary

  4. The correct wording is Honsi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense..which TattoDog has correctly translated for you...

  5. Apparently it's Norman French, according to the site. Pretty good site though - well worth a browse!

  6. Will have a look-see at that TD...served on the Victory as a guide back in '69/70 and found it most interesting. (Showing my age now!!!)
