  1. Theres a memorial being dedicated this Sunday, 2nd December to the crew of HMS Saldanha, a 36 gun Apollo class frigate, lost in Lough Swilly on the night of 4th December 1811. There were no survivors of the appox 260 man crew. Their bodies washed ashore, and were buried in a mass grave on what is now the 18th hole of portsalon golf course.
  2. The Captain's parrot was the only survivor - briefly. It was shot a few days later by a local who thought there was something a bot odd about a green bird, speaking to him...
